Gumi City held the 24th Gyeongbuk Disabled IT Festival, featuring an IT competition and awards ceremony for individuals with disabilities.
The IT competition aimed to strengthen the IT capabilities of individuals with disabilities and expand their opportunities for social participation. Award certificates and prizes were presented to the winners.
Gumi City supports the improvement of information technology skills and social participation among individuals with disabilities. The Korea Disabled People's Transportation Association Gyeongbuk Branch promotes various initiatives to enhance the welfare and rights of individuals with disabilities.
Gumi City, Gyeongbuk Province, held the '24th Gyeongbuk Disability IT Festival' on the 16th at the Gumi University auditorium, with about 600 people including disabled people and their families from Gyeongbuk Province in attendance. The event was hosted by the Korea Association of Traffic Disabled Persons, Gyeongbuk Branch.
Prior to the event, an IT competition was held in the computer lab at Gumi University in the morning. The purpose of this competition was to discover talented disabled individuals in the IT field, enhance their job skills, and lay the groundwork for their entry into society.
In the afternoon, the main competition was held, divided into 3 categories for adults (Internet search, typing, and computer proficiency) and 3 categories for students (Internet search, typing, and PowerPoint slide creation). Participants showcased their IT skills, gained confidence, and enjoyed a meaningful time of interaction.
During the awards ceremony, awards and prizes were presented to the winners of the computer usage essay contest (selected through pre-submission), as well as the gold, silver, bronze, and consolation prize winners in the 3 categories for both adults and students. A total of 45 individuals received awards, including the Gumi Mayor's Award and the National Assembly Member's Award.

The Korea Association of Traffic Disabled Persons, Gyeongbuk Branch (Chairman Kim Rak-hwan), was established in 1995 with the aim of preventing disability caused by traffic accidents and contributing to the promotion of welfare for the disabled. The association actively engages in various activities to promote the rights of the disabled, including traffic accident prevention counseling and support, IT education for the disabled, improvement of transportation accessibility for the disabled, and an annual year-end comfort event for severely disabled individuals in Gyeongbuk Province.
