Hypertube: The Intersection of Future Transportation, Changing Industrial Landscapes, and ESG

The railway landscape of the Korean Peninsula is rapidly changing. The past single-line railway network centered on the Seoul metropolitan area is now expanding into a sophisticated network that connects the entire country in a balanced way, and at its peak is the hypertube. The Korean hypertube (HTX), which aims for completion by 2050, is attracting attention as a core technology that transforms not only transportation infrastructure but also the national spatial structure and industrial landscape.

Looking at the development of the railway network so far, until the 2000s, it was limited to connections centered on general railways. In the 2010s, with the introduction of high-speed rail, travel time was drastically reduced. However, the imbalance in railway accessibility remained unresolved, and the gap between local and small cities and the Seoul metropolitan area acted as a barrier across the economy and society. However, since 2023, the high-speed rail network has expanded to regional central cities such as Cheongju, Wonju, Pohang, and Jeonju, making the "national two-hour living area" a reality. Intercity networks are now evolving from a linear to a web-like form.
